7 Different Types of Readers: Which One Are you?

This article is all about the different types of readers.

different types of readers

Have you ever thought about the different types of readers? I mean there are so many. There are the ones that seem to read 5 books a week, and others who know of every book, but haven’t really read any. There are the hoarders, and the particulars, there are the ‘always got their head in a book’ types and then there are the serial DNFers.

Each of these curious bookworms is a reading archetype in itself, which leads me to ask you- have you ever been brave enough to ask yourself that dreaded question: which one are you?

Or are you afraid of the answer? Let’s find out together.

This article is all about the different types of readers.

Different Types of Readers

1. The Book Clubber

This is the person who treats the book club as their main social outing of the month. They bring the snacks and have all the best up to date book recommendations, and their best friend is probably twenty years older.

But, other than that, they know ALL the best bookish activities and bookish days out, and are a great friend to have around.

2. The Chronic Annotator

Pastel highlighters? Check. The cutest pencil cases and bookish accessories? Check. The chronic annotator is usually super type A, and doesn’t miss much. They have designated pens for themes, character development, vocabulary and so much more.

They normally have one, or five, reading logs going at any one time, and will probably spend all their pay check at the craft store.

These are the readers who had the best grades in school, and love a gold star.

3. The Read-a-thoner

If there is a challenge, the readathoner is on it. Staying up for 24 hours straight to see how many pages they can read, tackling all of the books from the Rory Gilmore reading challenge, shooting for the moon and trying to read 50+ books a year- these are the readers who LOVE to challenge themselves.

Moderation doesn’t exist to them, it’s either 5 books a week or no books for a month. They thrive on time pressure, and their idea of a perfect weekend is persuading their friends to come over to read together with cozy reading snacks and blankets.

4. The Friendship Groups Resident Librarian

This is the friend who always has a book recommendation catered specifically towards each one of their friends, and they’re always happy to lend them out. The only problem is getting them back! Here’s a little freebie to help you out with that.

5. The Hoarder

This is the person who buys 5 new books every time they enter a bookshop. Their home library is full, and at this point, they need a bigger house. Reading is far lower on the list of priorities than collecting. Don’t worry book hoarders- we’ve all been there!

6. The Serial DNFer

The readers with a stack of abandoned books a mile high. They tend to be of the philosophy that if it’s not a 5 star read, it ain’t worth reading. And honestly, they may be onto something. These people know what they like, and they are NOT waiting around for things to get better!

FYI, these readers also tend to be MAJOR commitment-phobes, be wary.

7. The Progidy

Do you have that one friend- or maybe it is yourself- who has read War and Peace, Anna Katrina, all of Dostoevsky, and may just be the smartest person you know? This person has back issues from carrying around all their heavy books, and you can find them thinking philosophical thoughts on a park bench in the dead of winter.
