15 Date Lover Date Night Ideas.

    1. Have a Book-to-Film Night

    book store date ideas

If I have to choose a favourite date night idea, this one has to be it. It is so simple and costs next to nothing, and it can be as low or high energy as you want to make it.

For this you either have to choose a book you have both read, or spend a cosy weekend reading the same book. Then, you source the movie, dim the lights, set the ambience, ready the snacks, and you have a perfect cosy movie night.

Something me and my partner have started doing is buying our movies in physical stores- usually second hand. Doing this is so fun and it makes me so, so excited to watch the movie!

We do this because most streaming services seem to show ads now, whether you pay or don’t, so going analogue not only feels special, but allows us to have choice in if we want to watch the ads. Also, as an added bonus, we get to keep the movie and not worry about it leaving a streaming service.

Afterwards, you and your partner can discuss:

    • Was it accurate?
    • Which was better?
    • And your general thoughts and feelings.

      2. Reading Cafe Challenge

      book lover date night ideas

This challenge is perfect for colder weather, and weekend mornings. It reminds me why I love reading, and it’s so much fun!

To take part in the challenge, you simply need to head to your favourite bookshop and spend a few hours reading, drinking your favourite coffee shop drinks, and discussing books.

Try to read 50 pages per café, before switching to the next one.

      3. Spend the Day at a Literary Festival

      bookworm couple date ideas

If you’ve never been to a literary festival before, I can’t recommend it enough.

There is something so lovely about being surrounded by people who love books just as much as you do. You’ll usually find author talks, book signings, independent bookshops, writing workshops, and far too many books you’ll suddenly convince yourself you need.

Even if you go with the intention of “just looking”, don’t expect to leave empty-handed.

      4. Go on a Blind Date with a Book

      dating ideas for book lovers

I absolutely love this idea because it combines two of my favourite things- bookshops and surprises.

Head to your local bookshop and choose a book for each other without giving away the title. If your local shop has a “Blind Date with a Book” display already wrapped up, even better.

The fun comes from trying to choose something your partner will genuinely enjoy rather than something you’d pick yourself.

Once you’ve bought them, grab a coffee somewhere nearby and unwrap your books together.

      5. Visit the Birthplace of an Author You Both Love

      book dating ideas for couples

This one takes a little more planning, but I think it would make such a memorable day out.

Whether you both love Jane Austen, the Brontë sisters, or another favourite author, visiting somewhere connected to their life makes you appreciate their books even more.

You get to learn about the person behind the stories while exploring somewhere completely new together.

      6. Organise a Book Swap

      best bookworm date ideas

This is one of those book dating ideas for couples that’s incredibly simple but surprisingly meaningful.

Choose one of your favourite books, wrap it up, and include a little note explaining why you want the other person to read it.

I think handwritten notes make it even more special because they’ll always have something to look back on whenever they reread the book.

      7. Build a Blanket Fort and Read Together

      fun bookstore date ideas

You’re never too old for blanket forts.

Gather every cushion, duvet, and blanket you can find, make your favourite hot drinks, switch your phones onto silent, and spend the evening reading together.

If one of you enjoys reading aloud, take turns reading chapters to each other. There’s something incredibly comforting about hearing someone else read a story.

      8. Explore a Historic Library or Bookshop

      dating ideas for books

Some libraries and bookshops feel like attractions in their own right.

I could honestly spend hours wandering around beautiful old libraries, looking at the architecture before I even start browsing the books.

The same goes for independent bookshops with little reading nooks and squeaky wooden floors. They’re impossible to leave without buying at least one book.

      9. Go on a Literary Walking Tour

      book store date ideas

I think this is such a unique date idea because you get to combine reading with exploring somewhere new.

Many cities offer literary walking tours that visit places connected to famous authors or novels.

Even if you already know the stories, it’s fascinating seeing the real places that inspired them.

      10. Visit Places That Inspired Your Favourite Books

      personalized bookstore date ideas

If there isn’t an official walking tour nearby, why not plan your own?

Research locations that inspired your favourite books and spend the day exploring them together.

It could be somewhere nearby that you’ve never visited before or somewhere a little further away that becomes a weekend trip.

      11. Have a Book Picnic

As soon as the weather starts getting warmer, this jumps straight to the top of my list.

Pack your current reads, a cosy blanket, plenty of snacks, and head to your favourite park.

You can spend hours reading in the sunshine before chatting about your books over lunch.

It’s simple, affordable, and one of those dates that always feels relaxing.

      12. Spend an Afternoon Reading in a Cosy Café

      bookstore dating ideas for couples

This is slightly different from the reading café challenge because there’s no goal.

      No timer.

      No reading target.

      No pressure.

Just find somewhere comfortable, order your favourite drink (and probably cake), and enjoy a slow afternoon together.

Sometimes the nicest dates are the ones where nothing particularly exciting happens.

      13. Make Bookmarks for Each Other

I love keepsakes that you’ll actually use.

Buy some card, stickers, pressed flowers, ribbon, or whatever craft supplies you already have, and spend an afternoon making personalised bookmarks.

Every time you use it, you’ll think of the person who made it.

      14. Recreate a Meal from Your Favourite Novel

      best date for a bookstore

I’ve always wanted to recreate meals from books because food descriptions somehow always sound better in fiction.

Whether it’s an elaborate fantasy feast or a cosy afternoon tea from a classic novel, cooking together makes for such a fun evening.

If you really want to commit to the theme, read a few chapters while you’re eating.

      15. Listen to an Audiobook While Completing a Puzzle

      best book store dates

This has become one of my favourite cosy evening activities.

Choose an audiobook you’ve both wanted to listen to, put a puzzle on the table, light a candle, and settle in for a few hours.

I love that you’re doing something with your hands while still getting completely immersed in the story.

It’s the perfect slow evening when you don’t want to stare at another screen.

      16. Create a Reading Journal Together

Simply hit up your local craft store, and buy a dotted notebook and get creating.

If you’re both the organised type, this is such a fun little project.

Create a reading journal where you track the books you’ve read, write mini reviews, rate them, and keep a wish list of books you want to read next is a super fun thing to do anyway. But body doubling makes it so much more fun, and also opens up a million more dates as you add to your journals through the years.

        17. Try a Bookshop Scavenger Hunt

        book store hunt date

This is probably the most playful idea on the list.

Before you head to a bookshop, write a list of things you each have to find.

        For example:

        • A book with a blue cover.
        • A title with only one word.
        • A book published the year you were born.
        • The prettiest special edition.
        • A book you’ve never heard of but now desperately want.

It’s a brilliant way to discover books you would have otherwise walked straight past, and it makes wandering around a bookshop even more fun than it already is.
