The Best Books of 2025 Fiction | The Nitty Gritty Books I Read in 2025 That I Need You to Read
Finding the best books of 2025 fiction took some persevering, so i’m here to share with you the 3 fiction books that are actually worth your time so you don’t waste your time on 1 star reads.
2025 was a bit of a wild year for me, full of crazy life transitions and a pledge to find the books that make me want to stay up all night (even when I need to be up early). Entering this ‘grandma’ stage of my life was honestly more thrilling than the struck-by-lightning feeling when the lights would come on at the end of the club night, and your thinking to yourself, fuck… will the queue be too long for Maccies?
Now, my idea of a perfect evening is a very extra hot chocolate, a fire hazard of candles, a book, and no one around to distract me. Unfortunately, the great indoors has got me in its clutches and I cannot escape my cosy corner by the radiator.
And, whenever I begin to think I should brave the outside world, I remember these best books of 2025 fiction and remember I am home.
This is not about the books that were released in 2025, I’m pretty sure not a single one was. Rather, it’s about the books I read in 2025 and the ones I would recommend again and again.
Finding time to read is hard, so sometimes we just need to know what’s good before we commit.
This post is all about the best books of 2025 fiction that you should read today.

The best books I read in 2025…
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
I already knew I would love this book based on how much I loved The Secret History. Donna Tartt could turn anything into the most addictive page-turner. Truly. Her writing tends to occupy a gothic/dark academia category, and I am obsessed.
The Goldfinch follows a boy called Theodore as he experiences a catastrophic uprooting of his life when his mother dies in a tragic terrorist attack at an art gallery. In the midst of the chaos, he follows the wishes of a dying man in the rubble and “rescues” a painting of a goldfinch. The story then progresses to follow Theodore to Las Vegas and back to New York as he struggles to conceal the painting he took during the explosion. He is led down various avenues, becoming entwined in a crime he cannot escape.
What makes Donna Tartt’s books so incredible is the way she writes characters. They are real, vivid, and flawed, and they progress and develop in a way that few other writers achieve with the same justice.

Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
This book was sad and often made me feel lonely, but the books that make me feel deeply are the ones I remember most. It felt like a cathartic, warm hug- a welcome portrayal of human kindness at its very best.
The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
Rory Gilmore made me read this book, and it was quite a hefty one at that. In all honesty, I first picked this book up a few years ago but put it down when the momentum died. I am so glad I returned to it; I truly thought it was a brilliant piece of Literature.
The story follows Howard Roark as he strives for individualism in the architectural world, no matter the cost. The love story element is confusing, messy, and the opposite of any conventional romance you may have read. At times abusive and always destructive, Howard and Dominique are brilliant individuals who know what they must achieve in this world- and nothing, not even each other, will stand in their way.
